Legal Settlement Creates Limits To Google Books Program

November 14th, 2009

A recent settlement over the Google Books program will limit the scope of out-of-print works to English-speaking countries. The settlement will also limit the way Google can make money from digitizing out-of-print works. This forces the registry to actively seek out copyright holders who do not initially come forward to gain permission.

This settlement only applies to out-of-print books registered with the US Copyright office or published in Canada, the UK, and Australia.
